Cherokee VINELink Is Now IVSS
Texas replaced its county VINE service with Texas IVSS-Counties on September 1, 2025. The statewide service connects participating county jail and court interfaces. The Attorney General lists alerts for booking, release, transfer to TDCJ, death, escape, and scheduled or changed court events. Delivery preferences may include call, text, or email.
The Cherokee County Sheriff page may still send visitors toward VINELink. Treat that wording as a legacy path, not proof that the old interface remains current. The current county service is IVSS-Counties. A transfer-to-TDCJ notice closes the county stage but does not mean the person is free. From that event forward, use TDCJ custody records and its separate notification system.
IVSS is a notice and status layer, not the custodian of every underlying document. The Cherokee County Jail creates its booking and release transaction. A county or district court creates the bond order, judgment, or dismissal. When the alert and an agency record seem inconsistent, preserve both check times and ask the office that created the event. A short delay between jail processing and the public interface can explain a mismatch without proving that either record is false.

Check a Cherokee County Inmate
Search for one person, not a general release list. Start with the exact legal name and add a reliable identifier when the live portal permits it. Compare the facility, case information, custody status, and event date before accepting a match. A common name can return the wrong person, and a midnight update can place related booking and release events on adjacent dates.
No official Cherokee County, Texas current roster or rolling release feed was found as of the research date. That makes exact matching and direct confirmation more important. Do not substitute the prominent Cherokee County, Alabama roster. Its Centre location and different telephone area code identify another jurisdiction. The Texas county jail is in Rusk, and its records must come from Cherokee County, Texas sources.
- Open the IVSS-Counties portal and choose the offender or county custody search.
- Enter the exact name or available person identifier. Select Cherokee County and Texas rather than another county with the same name.
- Open the matching record only after comparing its facility and case details. Record the exact status and event date shown.
- Save the time of the check. Automated data can arrive after the source jail has processed the event.
- If no reliable result appears, call Cherokee County Jail at 903-683-6365 and request the written booking-and-release transaction from Sheriff Records.

Cherokee Release Alert Fields
Live labels can change, so transcribe them instead of forcing an old VINELink field list onto IVSS. The useful core is the matched person identifier, county or facility, literal custody status, event date, and related case number when displayed. An IVSS entry is evidence of what the connected interface published at that time. It is not a court judgment.

Use the portal result as a prompt for verification. The sheriff's booking and release transaction remains the stronger source for the precise time, code, and receiving agency.
Register Cherokee Release Notifications
Register from the correctly matched IVSS record. Existing VINE registrations were migrated during the statewide change, but users were asked to update passwords and preferences. A migrated registration should still be checked for the right person, contact method, and event selection.
- Open the matched custody or case record and choose its notification action.
- Create or sign in to the IVSS account if the current interface requires one.
- Select call, text, or email and choose the available event preferences, such as release or transfer.
- Complete the contact-verification process shown by the live portal. Do not assume it uses the old four-digit PIN.
- Save the confirmation and call 866-268-8959 if registration cannot be completed.
Quiet-period settings may control when some contacts arrive, but urgent event delivery still depends on the live service rules. Keep more than one reliable route if the portal permits it, and update a number or email address as soon as it changes.
Why Cherokee VINELink Changed
The local mismatch is unusually easy to encounter. Texas had a long-running VINE workflow, while Cherokee County's sheriff page retained a VINELink reference after the state moved county notifications to IVSS-Counties. An old bookmark, brochure, or search result can therefore point to instructions that no longer describe the current account and confirmation process.

That transition is why a current Cherokee County release check should name IVSS-Counties even when a local page or an older user still calls the service VINELink.
Verified August 2, 2026: IVSS-Counties was the current county route. Recheck the Attorney General page and live portal when using saved instructions.
Legacy Texas VINELink Instructions
The old Texas VINE brochure directed users to VINELink or 877-894-8463. Telephone registrants created a four-digit PIN, and an automated call asked for that PIN to confirm receipt. Unanswered calls could repeat until confirmation or the historical callback period ended. Multiple telephone or email destinations could be registered.
Those facts explain older screenshots and registrations only. The current Attorney General material does not state that IVSS uses the four-digit PIN. Follow the confirmation method shown by the live IVSS interface. If an old registration did not migrate or its preferences are wrong, create or update the current account and use the present help number.
Cherokee State Prison Alerts
Skyview Unit and Hodge Unit are TDCJ prisons in Cherokee County, not county-jail branches. The Attorney General directs state-prison and parole notification requests to TDCJ Victim Services at 800-848-4284. Use the TDCJ offender search for custody and parole-review details, then confirm an actual release through TDCJ.
A county IVSS notice that says “transfer to TDCJ” is the handoff point. Search by TDCJ or SID number when possible. The TDCJ detail may show facility, projected release, maximum sentence, parole eligibility, and review information, but a projected date or favorable vote is not the same as physical departure.
For an older discharged person absent from the current search, use TDCJ's email inmate-information route. Request incarceration history, release or discharge date and type, and supervision status. This also prevents a county release alert from being mistaken for the final end of state custody.
Confirm Cherokee County Release Alerts
An automated alert may arrive quickly, but it cannot establish every legal fact. A released status does not prove dismissal, sentence completion, freedom from another hold, or the end of probation or parole. A transfer status means the first custodian released the person to another authority. The receiving-agency field or a direct custodian response resolves that distinction.
Call Cherokee County Jail for a recent custody check, then email Sheriff Records at records@cocherokee.org for the identified booking-and-release transaction. Ask for the booking number, release date and time, literal release type or code, and receiving agency if transferred. Use the County Clerk for misdemeanor matters and the District Clerk for felonies. IVSS does not replace the BOP inmate locator for a federal case or the ICE locator for immigration custody. A federal “Released” entry may still coexist with another custody or supervision term. Likewise, a county handoff to ICE is not community release.
When sources conflict, keep both timestamps. Jail processing, court orders, and notification feeds may update at different times. Ask the originating custodian for the underlying record instead of choosing the result that seems most likely.
