Releases from Hodge Unit
Hodge Unit, code HD, is part of the TDCJ Correctional Institutions Division. It is not operated by the Cherokee County Sheriff. A person may leave Hodge through transfer to another state unit, movement into a required program or prerelease placement, release to parole or mandatory supervision, full discharge, or handoff to another authority. Only the completed TDCJ record establishes which event occurred.
A favorable Board of Pardons and Paroles vote can set a future month or require treatment before release. TDCJ vote codes with an “R” condition link approval to a program or transfer. Seeing “approved” does not prove that the person crossed the prison gate. Confirm the actual date and status after release processing, then verify the assigned supervision office if parole or mandatory supervision follows.
Search Hodge Unit Release Records
The TDCJ Inmate Search is the correct first route for someone now held at Hodge. Search by the seven-digit TDCJ number whenever possible. A State Identification number is also a strong key. Name searches accept first and last name, with gender and race available to separate similar records.
- Enter the state identifier. Use the TDCJ or SID number before relying on a name match.
- Open the detail record. Confirm the current unit, offense, county of conviction, and sentence date.
- Read each date label. Keep projected release, maximum sentence, and parole eligibility separate.
- Open parole information. Record the review status, decision, next review, or full vote code.
- Check actual departure. A release or discharge entry is stronger than a future date or approval.
The Cherokee County released-inmate lookup covers the broader custody timeline. For Hodge, however, the sheriff roster and county IVSS system are not substitutes for the statewide prison record.
Hodge Release Record Fields
TDCJ presents several fields that answer different questions. Copy the labels and date checked. A projected date may change, and an eligibility date is not a scheduled departure.

A person housed in Cherokee County may have been convicted elsewhere. Facility location does not create a Cherokee County court file.
Older Hodge Discharge Records
The public TDCJ interface focuses mainly on current inmates. Someone who completed a sentence may stop appearing. Use the official TDCJ inmate information email route for an older record. Send the full name and TDCJ number to pia@tdcj.texas.gov. Without the number, provide an exact date of birth, or approximate age and county of conviction.
Ask for incarceration history, the release or discharge date and type, and the public terminal supervision status. TDCJ lists no charge for its basic inmate-information fields. It does not supply photographs or Social Security numbers through this email service. For a broader state record, follow TDCJ's Public Information Act instructions and identify the exact incarceration episode.

TDCJ regional material identifies it as the Hodge Developmental Disabilities Program Unit. The switchboard can route a general unit question, but it is not the public offender database and staff may not disclose individual movement details.

For parole review results, BPP publishes a parole status line at 844-512-0461. After a favorable vote, Review and Release Processing at 512-406-5202 is the route for the processing stage. Have the person's name, TDCJ number, and date of birth ready.
Hodge Programs and Release Status
Hodge's Developmental Disabilities Program role matters when reading a movement. Specialized placement may reflect treatment, classification, or a condition tied to release planning. It should not be described as release merely because the person moved away from a prior unit or because a parole vote references a program.
BPP publishes different favorable vote types. FI-1 means release when eligible, FI-2 names a future month and year, and several “R” outcomes require a specified program or transfer. CU and DMS outcomes can deny release or set a later review. BPP can also reconsider an approval when new information arrives. Preserve the exact code rather than reducing every result to “granted” or “denied.”
Once physical release occurs, parole or mandatory supervision continues the state sentence in the community. It is not full discharge. Confirm the assigned parole office rather than assuming it from the prison location or an intended residence.
Hodge Projected Release Dates
TDCJ's Projected Release Date is calculated under the offense date, offense type, sentence structure, statutory eligibility, accrued credit, and BPP action. Texas does not impose one universal 85-percent rule on every state prisoner. Some offenses have strict flat-time provisions, while others follow different formulas. Good-conduct time is a privilege under Government Code chapter 498 and does not erase the sentence itself.
If a projected date passes while the current record still lists Hodge or another facility, do not declare release. Check maximum sentence date, parole information, a possible new sentence or hold, and the updated location. Request the revised calculation or release history from TDCJ when the fields conflict. A future TDCJ date is a projection, while a completed release or discharge entry records the custody event.
Hodge on the TDCJ Unit Map
The official TDCJ units-by-region map places Hodge and Skyview in Rusk and identifies them within the state prison network.
The map supports Hodge's status as a TDCJ facility and helps separate it from the locally operated Cherokee County Jail.
Rusk City Is Not Rusk County
Rusk city lies in Cherokee County and contains both the local jail and the Hodge and Skyview state complex. Rusk County is a different Texas county. A search that treats the city name as a county name can jump to the wrong court, sheriff, or institution.
Start with the custodian. Hodge and Skyview records belong to TDCJ. Cherokee County Jail records belong to the Sheriff's Office. The county of conviction may be somewhere else again. Verify the unit code, full address, TDCJ number, and county of conviction before combining two records. This distinction is especially important when a search result shows only “Rusk” without explaining whether it refers to the city, a unit location, or the separate county.
Confirm Departure from Hodge Unit
A reliable release statement needs a compatible person identifier and a completed state custody event. Record the TDCJ number, exact release or discharge label, date, and check time. If parole was approved, retain the vote code and any future-date or program condition. If another authority took custody, report the handoff rather than community release.
For state-prison notifications, the Texas Attorney General directs users to TDCJ Victim Services at 800-848-4284. Texas IVSS-Counties covers county jail and court events, so it is not the later-stage authority for a Hodge prisoner. After release to supervision, use the TDCJ Parole Division. A person may be supervised outside Cherokee County, and the unit switchboard cannot establish the final assignment.
